Non-Immigrant Visas

Required Documentation

What documents do I need to apply for a non-immigrant visa?

Please refer to Visa Forms. Applicants should bring the following to the interview:

  • Passport (or permanent resident document) valid for at least six (6) months from departure date. Brunei visa and employment permit (or dependent pass) must be valid for at least six (6) months from the date of departure.
  • Completed DS-156 Nonimmigrant Visa Application with no blanks.  This form must be filled out on-line.  Incomplete forms will not be accepted. If the question does not apply, write "none", "non-applicable", or "n/a"; print it out, and bring all three pages to your interview. Do not staple the forms together or print on both sides of the paper. (Note that Fomrs must be completed online before making an appointment).
  • One recent (less than six months) visa-sized (50mm x 50mm) color or black & white photo of the applicant's full face, with white background.  (Photograph specifications)
  • Documentation supporting the purpose of the planned trip and intent to return to Brunei. Original (not photocopies) evidence may include -- but is not limited to - a signed letter from the applicant's employer; employment contract; a current salary statement; bank passbooks and/or current account statements ( for at least 6 months); fixed deposit receipts; and a flight itinerary.
  • Birth certificates for children (under the age of 18) accompanying applicants.
  • Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-157) for all males between the age of 16-45. This form is not an online application and can be filled out either handwritten or typed.
  • Additional documentation as required by the consular officer.

Note: All applicants must use the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF).   Despite the name, nothing is transmitted to us electronically when you use the EVAF; rather, the data you enter is compressed into a barcode format, which we can then quickly scan into our computer system.

Click here to see an example of a properly prepared EVAF DS-156 (Adobe Acrobat Reader software required).

Some applicants may be required to bring additional documents:

IMPORTANT:

Each electronic form will have a barcode used for scanning the application when you appear at the Embassy for your interview appointment.
Unacceptable barcodes (those that cannot be read by our scanner due to poor printer quality and other factors) will not be accepted. Applicants will be asked to exit the Embassy and return with a readable barcode.

Before filling out the forms online, please read the system requirements carefully. If you do not have the listed system requirements, you may not be able to complete the form online.

Things to Think About When Coming for your Visa Interview
Check the time of your interview.  If you fail to bring all the required documents, have incomplete forms or arriving too late may result in cancellation of your appointment.

All visitors to the Embassy are subject to an airport-type screening. When planning your visit, bring only what is needed for your business with us. Electronic devices such as cell phones, PDAs, laptops, portable game devices, etc. cannot be taken into the embassy. If you have such items with you, your entry (and the entry of those in line behind you) will be delayed. You may have to wait a considerable amount of time outside the Embassy.
