Renewing a Passport

What documents do I need to renew my passport?

To renew a 10-year validity passport that has not yet expired or expired less than two years ago, present your passport at the Consular Section along with the following:

  • A completed and signed form DS-82 (PRINT FORM DS-82). The form may also be obtained at the ACS office or a U.S. passport agency. Be sure to include your social security number on the application form, as we cannot process your application without it.
  • Two recent 2" x 2" (50mm X 50mm) passport photos. Please review the Passport Photograph Requirements.
  • If you have changed your name by court decree or through a marriage, submit the original court order for the change of name, or your original marriage certificate (copies are not acceptable).
  • Fee of US$75 (in U.S. or Brunei currency)
May I have someone else submit an application for me?

If you are renewing a ten-year validity passport that has not yet expired or expired less than two years ago, and your name has not changed, you may send another person to the Embassy to file the application for you.

If you do this, provide this person with a signed letter of authorization stating that you permit them to file a passport application on your behalf. You must sign the DS-82 form yourself; no proxy is allowed. Please note that if the Passport official has any question about your eligibility for a U.S. passport, you will be required to appear in person.

All minors (under the age of 18) must appear in person to obtain a passport.

How do I apply for a renewal passport for my child?

The procedures for renewing a passport for a child under 16 are the same as first time applications.
