U.S. Ambassador congratulates local journalist.

Today, U.S Ambassador Emil Skodon congratulated Ms. Sonia Kaur of the Borneo Bulletin on her being selected as a fellow to join the 2008 Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships (AFPF). The AFPF is an American non-profit, non-governmental organization, which organizes cultural and professional exchange program for journalists.  Ms. Sonia successfully completed a highly competitive selection process to gain admission to this prestigious program. Ms Sonia will be working with the Rocky Mountain News in Colorado.

Since 1984, the AFPF’S core program has provided journalists around the world with the opportunity to work as reporters at American newspapers for five months. The program, which runs from mid-March to early September, is offered annually to approximately ten professional print journalists between the ages of 25 and 35.

The late Alfred Friendly, a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter and former managing editor of The Washington Post, conceived a fellowship program that would both impart American journalistic traditions and respond to worldwide interest in the dissemination of fair and accurate news. Of the many training programs available to journalists, the Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships is the only one to offer a non-academic, long-term, hands-on experience in a single newsroom.
