U.S. Embassy and Brunei officials Visit USS Ronald Reagan

November 4, 2008

As part of Ambassador William Todd’s initiative to enhance exchanges between U.S. and Bruneian officials, the U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission John McIntyre and Military Attache Colonel Karl Seabaugh led several senior RBAF officials, embassy staff and local media representatives for a tour aboard the USS Ronald Reagan.

Deputy Chief of Mission McIntyre commented: "Ambassador Todd’s commitment to increased exchanges and interactions between the U.S. Government and the Government and people of Brunei benefits greatly from ship visits to the impressive USS Ronald Reagan. We are grateful for the hospitality shown our Bruneian guests from the RBAF and media.  Ambassador Todd and the US Embassy is focused on increasing our engagement with Brunei economically, educational, and in defense cooperation. We are especially pleased we were able to host our Bruneian friends on a day that means so much to Americans, our Presidential election day."

On arrival at the USS Reagan, the group was welcomed by Rear Admiral Scott Hebner, Commander Captain Thomas Lalor and Captain William Nault. The group was then treated to an up-close view of flight operations, observing aircraft launches from the flight deck and the control center. During the tour, visitors also had the opportunity to interact with sailors during the course of normal ship operations. The group also experienced the thrill of landing and launching from the aircraft carrier.

The Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group is currently in the U.S. 7th Fleet’s area of responsibility as part of a routine deployment to promote peace, cooperation and stability in the region. Home-ported in San Diego, USS Ronald Reagan is the Navy’s newest Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
