New U.S. Embassy taking shape in the diplomatic enclave

On Friday, October 31, U.S. Ambassador William Todd made a site visit to the U.S. Embassy’s building site. Ambassador Todd took the opportunity to review the work done to date by Brunei’s own United Engineering. The New U.S. Embassy will be located in the Diplomatic Enclave along Jalan Kebangsaan.
Ambassador Todd noted: “The new U.S. embassy will be a prominent and visible symbol of our strong relations with the Sultanate of Brunei Darusallum. The construction of our new Embassy is just one of the many ways we are increasing our engagement with Brunei. I am proud of that fact that our new Embassy will inject millions of dollars into the Brunei economy.”
Approximately eight months after finalizing the purchase agreement, major early site construction clearing work is underway. The U.S. Embassy projects completion of the New Embassy Building in 2010. Construction work is also expected to start as early as February 2009.
