U.S. and Brunei agencies continue to work on IP enforcement
September 23, 2008U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Trade Representative Regional Office, in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy-Brunei, will be conducting a workshop related to the enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPR) from September 23 till 25, 2008 in Brunei Darussalam.
The workshop, focusing on customs procedures and critical legal authorities, will be held in collaboration with the Royal Customs and Excise Department, Royal Brunei Police Force and the Attorney General's Chambers. Regional Attaches with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will be conducting the workshop providing technical and legal expertise and training on IPR enforcement.
The workshop is a follow-up to the successful ‘Conference on Effective Practices in IPR Enforcement’ held in Brunei Darussalam in June 2008. Ambassador William Todd noted that “The Workshop is an excellent example of the close cooperation between the Government of Brunei and the United States. With the recent announcement of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Free Trade Negotiations, intellectual property rights (IPR) will be a critical issue. I look forward to working with His Majesty’s Government not only on IPR issues but all aspects of our trade and commercial partnership.” Ambassador Todd and the U.S. Embassy-Brunei continue to support the efforts of Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Trade Representative, and the Government of Brunei to protect intellectual property rights in Brunei.
