    The Asia Pacific Leadership Program 2014 – 2015 APLP Fellowship

    The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for the 2014 – 2015 APLP Fellowship. The APLP is a signature program of the East-West Center. It involves 4.5 months of intensive work in Honolulu and a highly flexible 4.5 month practicum, giving participants a wide range of options for their second semester experience. 

  • IRS Reminds Those With Foreign Assets of U.S. Tax Obligations

    The Internal Revenue Service reminds U.S. citizens and resident aliens, including those with dual citizenship who have lived or worked abroad during all or part of 2012, that they may have a U.S. tax liability and a filing requirement in 2013

    New Hours for Routine U.S. Citizen Services

    Appointments are required for all routine U.S. citizen services such as passport service, reports of birth abroad, and notarizations of documents at the U.S. Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan.

    New USCIS Immigrant Fee to be Implemented

    Effective February 1, 2013, all individuals issued immigrant visas overseas must pay a $165.00 USCIS Immigrant Fee before traveling to the U.S. Only prospective adoptive parents whose child(ren) is/are entering the U.S. under either the Orphan or Hague Process, Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants who were employed by the U.S. government, returning residents, and those issued K visas are exempt from the new fee.

  • New IRS Form For Overseas Taxpayers

    The Form 8938 (Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets) should be filed by taxpayers with specific types and amounts of foreign financial assets or foreign accounts. It is important for taxpayers to determine whether they are subject to this new requirement because the law imposes significant penalties for failing to comply. More information and instructions available on IRS website.
