Deputy Chief of Mission

Mr. John W. McIntyre assumed his duties as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy-Brunei on July 8th, 2008.  Prior to his arrival in Brunei, John served as a Special Assistant in the Office of the Under Secretary for Management in Washington, D.C.  He has served overseas in Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, and Kosovo.  John primarily served in management roles in his overseas assignments.  He has worked in a variety of policy areas, focusing on human rights, religious freedom, and public outreach.

 John is a career Foreign Service officer and joined the Foreign Service in 1999.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Political Science and Communication Arts.  John received his Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas.  A native of Texas, John’s immediate family lives in the Midwest.  Most importantly, John is a newlywed.  His bride, Flora Zylfijaj, is a native of Kosovo and she and John were married on May 31, 2008.
