SPEECHES

CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE
by U.S. Ambassador Emil Skodon
Event: RADIO BRUNEI's Golden Jubilee on May 2, 2007 (
As recorded on Pilihan Network 95.9 & 96.9 FM)

Hello. This is Emil Skodon, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Brunei Darussalam.

I am delighted to have this opportunity to convey my personal greetings to Radio Brunei on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee, this day on May 2nd

As a source of information and entertainment, Radio Brunei plays an important role in connecting the people of Brunei to the world.  It is therefore appropriate that this Golden Jubilee takes places just before World Press Freedom Day on the Third of May.  In  his message on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, called for reflection on the media’s vital role in promoting sustainable peace, democracy and development.  In that spirit,  I salute those members of Radio Brunei‘s staff and leadership who have worked towards those goals over the last fifty years, and I encourage their continued dedication to those important principles in the future.

Congratulations Radio Brunei.  I wish you another 50 years of success!
